Ruidoso is lucky to have three public and two private golf courses in the area. There are also several more within an hour's drive. The climate is conducive to year round golf even though the second largest ski area in New Mexico is just up the mountain.

This course was designed by PGA professional Jim Colbert. It is the premier public golf course in southern New Mexico. This course is a Scottish Links style course with rolling fairways, large greens, and thick mounds. The Links was rated in the top 10 best courses in New Mexico. The diverse layout lends itself to a challenging round of golf for all levels. This course is a favorite among locals and tourists so be sure to call for a tee time. A wonderful driving range is a plus at this facility. Many group outings are held at this course. This is the area's oldest course, It is known to be affordable and playable for all skill levels. It has some great mountain views and is well groomed. It is a semi-private course that welcomes outside play. This course is host to several tournaments throughout the year. Contact the pro shop for dates and details. A full service restaurant and lounge are available to golfers complete with great views of Sierra Blanca, PUBLIC, 18 holes, 5766 yards, rating 66.4, slope 104. 505-257-5815.

Inn of the Mountain Gods:
This spectacular mountain course was designed by Ted Robinson. Sierra Blanca is visible from many locations on this championship course that has been listed in the top 25 golf courses in the United States. Deer and Elk are often seen along the fairways. The design of this course will challenge all aspects of your game and is a must play while in Ruidoso. The rest of the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort is nearby for your enjoyment. Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club:
This is a private course designed by Ken Dye. The front nine is on a mesa among the residential area. The back nine faces Sierra Blanca and is one of the toughest in the state. This course will definitely challenge your golf skills. The pro shop offers lessons and a variety of clothes and equipment. PRIVATE CLUB, 18 holes, 6593 yards, rating 68.6, slope 128. 505-336-4231.

Kokopelli Golf Course:
Built in 1999, this is an executive golf course near Alto Lakes Country Club. It is a private club. PRIVATE, 18 holes. 505-336-7843.

The Lodge at Cloudcroft:
About 45 miles from Ruidoso is New Mexico's highest golf course. This 9-hole golf course is at 9200 feet. It is set among gorgeous pines and aspens. It has hidden fairways and greens and provides a fun round for all skill levels. PUBLIC RESORT, 9 holes, 4774 yards. 505-682-2098.

Ponderosa Pines Golf Course:
This mountain course is located nine miles southeast of Cloudcroft on Highway 130. Reasonable green fees make it affordable to play this 9 hole course which has a layout that is friendly to golfers of all levels. PUBLIC, 9 holes. 505-682-2995.

Desert Lakes Golf Course:
This 18 hole municipal course is located approximately 45 miles from Ruidoso in Alamogordo. It is very affordable and the climate allows it to stay open year 'round. The course runs among the homes and the foothills of the mountain range. The back nine has a modified desert layout. This facility has a driving range. PUBLIC, 18 holes, 505-437-0290.

New Mexico Military Institute:
Located in Roswell, this course is fairly flat and short. Walkers are welcomed. Another plus is the inexpensive green fees, and the area's climate enables it to remain open all year. PUBLIC, 18 holes, 505-622-6033.

Spring River Golf Course:
This course is also in Roswell, about 70 miles from Ruidoso. It is a municipal course that is popular among the locals so call for a tee time. It is known for its great greens. PUBLIC, 18 holes. 505-622-9506.
